Frequently Asked Questions
What are the recruit requirements?
The Police Chiefs’ Association of Orange County Police Academy currently only accepts police recruits who are hired in a full or part time capacity by a police agency and are sworn in prior to the start of the Basic Course for Police. Individuals cannot sign up on their own to attend police training. Steps are being taken to possibly provide Pre-Employment, also known as “Phase I” police training for persons who have not yet been hired and sworn.
What is the academy dress code?
All students who are attending the academy for training will be in proper attire which is uniform, business casual or business attire. There will be no jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sneakers, tank tops or excessive jewelry for male officers. Certain training sessions dictate a different attire and will be clarified by the instructor or academy director.
Recruit police officers will receive a clothing requirement list, which must be purchased prior to the start of any Basic Course for Police.
What should I do if I am going to be late for class?
Any officers who arrives later than the scheduled time will not be admitted to the assigned training. If there is a delay in arrival and you will be late, please call the academy at 845-394-0143.
